Ninelands Primary School currently has a vacancy for a co-opted governor. Please see the information below:
Governors do not need any special educational knowledge.
The board of governors provides strategic guidance and scrutiny to the leadership team in the school. Although educational performance is something we look at, the running of the whole school is part of our remit. As well as being concerned about the school ethos, curriculum, pupil support and policies, we cover areas such as the budget, personnel issues, health & safety, the buildings & grounds. Any knowledge in these areas would be advantageous to the makeup of the governing body although this is not essential. We just need somebody to look at things from a different perspective and ask questions like ‘why is it done that way?’ All the training and support that you need will be provided.
Being a Governor does not take a lot of time.
Each year, we ask that you prepare for and attend four meetings of the Full governing body (Tuesdays 6:30-8:30 pm), join at least one of the subcommittees which meet once per term and undertake occasional other monitoring visits to school. You will also need to take part in training to provide you with the skills required to be an effective governor. Of course, there is much more you can do if you wish to.
Who can be a governor?
Most people can be a school governor there are a few criteria that could exclude you, but these are rare. You will need to pass a DBS check.
Currently, we would benefit from someone with a knowledge or interest in delivering learning. Someone with a younger perspective could also be of benefit to the makeup of the board. However, we would welcome anyone who felt they could be part of the team.
What’s in it for you?
You gain a wide range of management skills; contribute to the strategic running of the school and enjoy knowing that you can make a difference to the education of our young people.
Could you be who we need? Feel free to get in touch if you would like more information or an opportunity to visit the school, please contact Governors@Ninelands-school.co.uk
